BCL man shot as he tries to quell 2 feuding JCD men
A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was shot in Collegepara area of the town on Monday night as he came forward to quell two feuding Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders.
Bullet-hit Jibon Chowdhury, 26, is son of Ali Akbar of Collegepara, and a member of the ruling party student wing BCL's town convening committee.
Locals said Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila JCD Joint Convener Mamun Mia's brother-in-law Al Amin was beaten up by JCD activist Jaher Mia on Sunday evening.
Jibon was shot on Monday night when he came forward to prevent Mamun and Jaher from altercation, locals said, adding that it occurred as a sequel to Sunday's incident.
Locals took him to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital from where doctors sent him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as his condition deteriorated.
Dr Nazmul Haque Rony of Sadar Hospital said Jibon sustained bullet injuries in his right chest. He was sent to DMCH due to deterioration of his condition, Dr Nazmul added.
Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Nabir Hossain said they have identified the youth who shot Jibon and are trying to arrest him.
