Bangladeshi killed in Uganda
A Bangladeshi national has been found dead in Lira town of Uganda.
The deceased, Hammed Md Maimuddin, 45, an area manager in-charge of small enterprises for Brac Uganda, a microfinance institution, was found dead yesterday at his office in Te-obia, central division in Lira Municipal Council, reports Daily Monitor Uganda.
His passport of number BL0211172 was recovered at the scene.
James Aworu, Brac Uganda’s service staff and a colleague of the deceased, was also found unconscious in the same office and was later hospitalized at Lira Medical Centre in critical condition, reports Daily Monitor Uganda.
David Ongom, a spokesperson for North Kyoga Regional Police, confirmed the death to Daily Monitor Uganda and said police suspected that the incident could have happened on Monday afternoon during a downpour.
“The cause of the death is not clear since a postmortem report is not yet ready. And the man who is admitted to hospital is not able to make a statement yet since he is unconscious,” Odongo said.
Recently, police urged Lira residents to be alert following a series of robberies in the town.
