Bangladesh urges India for speedy signing of Muhurir strip map
Bangladesh has urged India for speedy signing of the strip map of a 2-km border at Muhurir Char (Feni in Bangladesh and Belonia in Tripura, India) in a bid to fully implement the long-festering land boundary problem in the tiny portion of land.
The country also requested Indian authorities to allow Bangladeshi travellers to use any Indian air and land port for entry into and out of India, our New Delhi correspondent reports.
Bangladesh’s view points were conveyed at the two-day 18th home secretary-level meeting between Bangladesh and India which concluded in New Delhi yesterday, according to a statement issued by the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi today.
India and Bangladesh implemented the land boundary agreement in August last year, a while after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka in June, 2015, swapping the enclaves adversely possessed. But Muhurir Char has remained unsettled after India reportedly raised some issues regarding a fresh survey of the area.
The law and order along Indo-Bangladesh border, prevention of cross-border smuggling, especially of drugs and handing of wanted criminals hiding in both sides of the border dominated the talks, said the statement.
The Bangladesh side at the talks was led by Home Secretary Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan, while his Indian counterpart Rajiv Mehrishi led his country’s team.
