Bangladesh minister meets Modi, discusses bilateral issues
Visiting Bangladesh Home Minister Azaduzzaman Khan Kamal today called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed bilateral issues, including the current situation in Bangladesh.
The meeting between Kamal and Modi came hours ahead of India-Bangladesh Home Ministerial meeting later this evening when the two sides are scheduled to discuss ways to further step up security and anti-terror cooperation to be held in the North Block, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
Kamal reached Delhi on Wednesday afternoon leading a high-level delegation, that also includes Home Secretary Dr Mohd Mozzamel Huq and IGP A K M Shahidul Huq, on a four-day visit for the fourth Home Minister-level talks between the two countries.
"The talks are expected to further strengthen and enhance the excellent cooperation between the two countries on security and border management matters," an official statement said today.
The ministerial-level talks will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm.
Khan had yesterday visited India’s Central Forensic Science Laboratory in the afternoon as the two countries also deliberate on how to increase coordination between security agencies of the two countries in tackling terror, particularly in the backdrop of the recent ghastly attacks in Dhaka and Sholakia on July 1 and 7 respectively.
During the talks, both sides will review of Land Boundary Agreement implementation, security and border management and related issues, the statement said.
The LBA was clinched during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Dhaka in June, 2015, settling a long-festering irritant in bilateral ties.
The Indian delegation at the talks will consist of National Security Adviser Ajit K Dobhal, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and officers of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Border Security Force (BSF), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Coast Guard and others.
The last home ministerial level talks in India were held in December, 2012 and in Bangladesh in January, 2013.
