Bangabandhu first realised Pakistan was not born to exist: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the first among many Bengali politicians who realised that the state of Pakistan was not born to exist.
"Pakistan was an artificial state of two far-flung nations founded on the basis of religion but having no similarity in their languages, cultures and behaviours. Artificially the two nations of about 1200-miles distance were connected. And, soon after creation of Pakistan, the rulers swooped attack on the language of the majority people, which led Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to realise that Pakistan was not born to exist", she said.
The prime minister was speaking at a seminar organised by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust marking Historic March 7 at the Krishibid Institute auditorium in Dhaka.
Sheikh Hasina said the call of Bangabandhu made on March 7, 1971 was the Charter of Independence of the Bengali nation and his well-thought out and sagacious steps and movements paved the path towards independence.
The prime minister expressed her firm optimism that the historic speech of Bangabandhu would guide new generation to be imbued with hopes, aspirations and patriotism and thus they would remember the great leader forever.
Sheikh Hasina, also the chairperson of the Trust, presided over the seminar while chairman of Suchinta Foundation Mohammad A Arafat and Dr Zinat Huda, professor of Department of Sociology of Dhaka University, participated in the discussion.
Dr Moshiur Rahman, professor of Department of Sociology of DU, presented the keynote paper on 'Bangabandur Bhashon: Rastro O Somaj Kathamo Poribortaner Dik Dorshan" (Bangabandhu's speech on March 7: A philosophy of Changing the State and Social Structure).
Member-secretary of the Trust Sheikh Hafizur Rahman gave the welcome address while its chief executive officer Mashrura Hossain gave vote of thanks.
