Arrest of stalker demanded
Local people and different political and socio-cultural organisations yesterday strongly protested physical assault of a schoolgirl by a youth in Fulchhari upazila and demanded immediate arrest and punishment to the culprit.
The protesters also gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the upazila administration to arrest the culprit, otherwise, to face tougher agitation.
Teachers, students and people from all walks of life formed a human chain and brought out a procession that paraded the main roads of the upazila headquarters to press home their demands.
Speakers said one Naimuddin, 26, of Kanchipara village, waylaid a girl student of Nazrul Huq Adarsha Girls' High School and beat her mercilessly while she was returning home from school on Wednesday afternoon.
Hearing her screams, villagers rescued her and admitted her to Fulchhari Upazila Health Complex.
The victim, a Class IX student of the school, is now undergoing treatment at the hospital, speakers said.
