AL men ‘assault’ Natore school teacher
A teacher of a high school in Singra upazila of Natore has claimed that some local leaders of ruling Awami League have assaulted him physically.
Some five to six people led by Jahedul Islam Bhola, Chaugram Union Parishad chairman and joint secretary of Singra upazila unit AL, assaulted Rafiqul Islam, headmaster of Khidrabaria High School yesterday noon, our correspondent reports quoting the headmaster.
The AL men entered the office room of the school with bamboo sticks and “beat him up” mercilessly without any provocations, Rafiqul alleged.
Later, he was rescued by teachers and students of the school and rushed to Singra upazila health complex, from where he was shifted to Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital this morning.
"Earlier, one Shahin Reza joined at the school as a physical education teacher. The education board sacked him as he joined with fake certificates. Since then, Bhola was demanding Tk 5 lakh to the headmaster following Reza’s removal," he said.
Meanwhile, Jahedul Islam Bhola claimed he was not involved in the incident, adding that the headmaster was absent in the school yesterday according to the register, so there was no scope to assault him.
“It is a rumour against me, I was not there on Saturday,” he said.
Mir Asaduzzaman, assistant superintendent of police (Singra Circle) in Natore, said they have already learnt the matter. They are yet to take any step as no case was filed in this connection, he said.
"Police will take necessary step after getting a complaint," the ASP added.
