59 civil society individuals to be invited for polls talks
The Election Commission will invite 59 civil society members to join the electoral dialogue with the commission on July 31.
“We will send invitation letters from tomorrow to 59 civil society members,” Muhammad Abdullah, Election Commission’s secretary, told The Daily Star today.
Former advisers to the caretaker governments, educationists, social activists and renowned personalities have been chosen for the talks, Abdullah said.
When asked about the agenda of the talks, he said: “There is no specific agenda. The discussion is open and the invitees can talk on any issue relating to election.”
The talks will be held at 11:00am at the Election Commission secretariat.
Few days ago, the EC has unveiled a year-long roadmap for the next parliamentary elections.
Before holding the next parliamentary election, a topic that is the centre of discussion in politics now, the commission plans to hold dialogue with politicians, civil society members and journalists.
The EC will hold separate dialogues with election observers, women leaders and election management experts in October.
