6 rapists to die
A Narsingdi court yesterday sentenced six people to death for raping a woman worker and taking video of the scene in 2013 at Palash upazila of the district.
Shamim Ahmed, Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Narsingdi, pronounced the verdict in a crowded courtroom.
The case statement says Hasina Akhter, 20, a worker of Pran-RFL Company, was going to the company's mess at Mukta Villa after the day's work on May 23, 2013 when the convicts kidnapped her from in front of Janata Jute Mill Gate.
They took her to a secluded place and gang-raped her. The miscreants also recorded the rape scene in their cellphones and let her go about half an hour after the incident.
The following day, the victim along with a security personnel of the company Sakila, went to the company's assistant manager ASM Sadequl Islam and informed him about the incident.
Later, a case was filed against the six accused with Palash Police Station.
Biplob Kumar Dutta, investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet to the court against the six.
The convicts are Ashiqur Rahman, 35, son of late Quddus Ali; Iliyas, 21, son of Tajul Islam; Romin, 20, son of Siraj Sheikh; Robin, 20, son of Hanifa; Ibrahim, 22, son of Montu Mia; and Abdur Rahman, 24, son of Salam Mia. All of them are from Bagpara village under the upazila.
The court found the six guilty and awarded each of them death sentence. The court also fined them Tk 1 lakh each.
