6 DAGs to be relieved: Law minister
At least six deputy attorneys general (DAGs) will be relieved from their offices due to poor performance in dealing with cases on behalf of the state before the Supreme Court, Law Minister Anisul Huq said today.
The process for their (DAGs) exemption is underway, the minister told The Daily Star, adding that some new DAGs might be appointed to their places.

The minister, however, did not say details in this regard including the names of DAGs who will be exempted.
He said the government on June 11 relieved 23 assistant attorneys general (AAG) from their offices, as they were in the services for long periods, but could not prove their necessity.
Only a few of the AAGs attended the courts for dealing with the cases on behalf of the state, the minister said, adding that the government has taken the move to exempt the DAGs and AAGs and appoint new ones as part of reshuffling the attorney general’s office.
On the same day, the government appointed 27 new AAGs in their place.
Following the changes, there are now-- other than Attorney General Mahbubey Alam-- two additional attorneys general, 44 DAGs and 100 AAGs.
