16 killed in Brahmanbaria, Madaripur, Tangail road crashes
At least 16 people were killed in separate road accidents in Brahmanbaria, Tangail and Madaripur districts today.
In Brahmanbaria, eight people were killed and four were injured as a bus hit a microbus on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Bijoynagar upazila around 10:00am, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.
Seven bodies were recovered from the spot where the accident took place at Islampur in the upazila, Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Sarail Biswaroad Crossing Road Police Station, told the daily.
The injured were taken at the district’s Sadar Hospital. Later, one of them succumbed to his injuries there, the OC told the daily.
All the victims were passengers of the microbus.
In Madaripur, four people were killed as a bus rammed a three-wheeler on Dhaka-Barisal highway in Rajoir upazila today, said Md Kamrul Hassan, officer-in-charge of Rajoir Police Station.
In Tangail, four people were killed and 20 others injured as a bus skidded off the road in Kalihati upazila early today, reports our correspondent.
Deceased Mominur Rahman, 35, Ripon Miah, 30, Asma Begum, 30, and Ahsan Habib, 12, were residents of Hatibandha and Patgram upazilas in Lalmonirhat district.
The bus skidded off the Dhaka-Tangail highway at Poule area as its driver lost control over the steering around 4:30am, our local correspondent reports.
Four passengers of the bus died on the spot and 20 others were injured, Sergeant Jahangir Alam, in-charge of Elenga Highway Police Outpost.
The injured people were rushed to the Tangail Medical College Hospital.
Some garments workers were aboard the bus that was heading for Gazipur from Lalmonirhat.
