3000 hit by Bogra flood
Hundreds of people of the Jamuna basin area under Shariakandi upazila of Bogra have been confined by flood water during the last five days.
Villagers said the rapid rise of water level to the danger level (16.68 cm) because of on-rush of water from the upstream hilly areas of Bangladesh-India border inundated fresh areas, damaging standing crops.
Around 3,000 locals have been affected by the rise in water level. Some of them have shifted their houses to safer locations like the flood control embankment and buildings of educational institutions.
Many victims have taken shelter on the 10-km-long flood control embankment from Mothurapur area to Doripara area under Kamalpur union.
Water Development Board (WDB) sources said water had increased during the last three or four days and submerged many low areas. The water has started receding and is now flowing 38 cm below the danger mark.
