3 of a family burnt in Sylhet septic tank fire
A woman and her two children suffered burns in a fire that broke out from the toxic gas of a septic tank of their house in Sylhet city last night.
The injured -- Monwara Begum, 45, her daughter Zahida Akter, 20, and son Zahir Hossain, 14, -- were rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Later, they were referred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for better treatment, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent quoting Omar Farukh, a doctor of MAG Osmani Hospital.
Of them, Monwara and Zahida suffered 60 percent burn injuries, said the physician.
Due to the prevailing load shedding problem in the area, Zahida went to toilet with a candle around 11:30pm.
As soon as she lifted the cover of the commode, the fire broke out inside the toilet and engulfed the entire house, said Zabed Hossain, station officer of Sylhet Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The fire might have originated from a gas leak outside in a nearby septic tank, fire service officials said.
Locals managed to douse the flame before the fire fighters reached the spot.
The fire damaged furniture and valuables of the house worth about Tk 1 lakh, said Zabed Hossain.
