2 militant couples of ‘Neo JMB’ held: Rab
Law enforcers today claimed arrest of two couples from Dhaka and its outskirts in Narayanganj who they say are militants of the “Neo JMB” – the newly formed Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh.
The arrestees are identified as Aminul Islam, 34, his wife Nahid Sultana, 30, Shariful Islam, 18, and his wife Marzia Akhter Sumi, 19, - who were all planning to leave for Pakistan.
They were arrested while taking preparations to leave the country, Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of Rab legal and media wing, said at a press briefing held at Rab-2 office.
Shariful, Aminul and Sultana were active members of the militant organisation. Marzia joined the organisation through social media facebook recently, the Rab official said.
Shariful and Marzia used to recruit new members, assigned them for operations and took initiatives for sending them abroad after the operations become successful, Rab official Mufti added.
According to the arrestees, they have several other groups. The members of the groups are planning to carry out suicide attacks, Mufti said adding that the information was obtained upon primary quizzing.
Legal process is underway against the arrestees.
