2 Kushtia journo sent to jail in ICT case
A court in Kushtia today sent two local journalists to jail in a case filed under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act for posting “derogatory comments” against a local newspaper editor on Facebook.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mejbaul Haq passed the order after rejecting their bail petitions, reports our local correspondent.
The two journalists are Hasan Ali, district correspondent of TV-channel Bangla Vision and news portal Bdnews24.com, and Aslam Ali, staff reporter of Kushtiar Darpan, a local newspaper.
On March 30, Hasibur Rahman Rizu, editor and publisher of local newspaper “Daily Sotto Khabar” and also district correspondent of Asian TV, filed a case with Kushtia Model Police Station against three people including the two journalists for posting and sharing objectionable comments on social media site Facebook, according to the case statement.
Later on April 11, the due secured bail for four weeks from the High Court.
Today, the duo appeared before the additional chief judicial magistrate of Kushtia seeking bail in the case.
