2 hurt as ‘arms dealers’, Satkhira cops trade fire
Two people were shot when police and alleged illegal arms dealers were exchanging fire in Kolaroa upazila of Satkhira in the wee hours of today.
The injured were Ramjan Ali Mollah, 33, from Satkhira Sadar and Mofijul Islam, 26, from Kolaroa, our Satkhira correspondent reports quoting police.
The incident took place when arms traders were selling illegal firearms at Ekra Government Primary School field around 1:30am, said Kamal Hossain, a sub-inspector of local superintendent’s office.
“Police cracked down in the area. Sensing their presence, the illegal arms dealers blasted several hand bombs and fired gunshots. Police retaliated with gunfire,” the police official said.
Two people were hit by bullets. The others managed to flee, he said.
One revolver and two unexploded crude bombs were recovered at the scene, he added.
The injured were taken to Satkhira General Hospital for treatment, Abu Saleh Masud Karim, officer-in-charge of Kolaroa Police Station, said.
