1,451 wild birds rescued in Feni

Rapid Action Battalion with the help of forest department rescued 1451 wild birds including some rare and endangered species in Feni Model Thana area in Feni early today.
They later freed the birds following a press briefing in the district.
Three alleged smugglers -- Ruhul Amin Sheikh, 32, Rony Talukder, 30, and Atiar Rahman, 45, -- were arrested along with bird hunting equipment, our Feni correspondent reports quoting Squadron Leader Shafayat Jamil Fahim of Rab-7.
Acting on a tip-off, a Rab team lead by Fahim and forest department officials raided several spots in Feni Model Thana area around 3:30am and rescued 24 endangered parrots, 1050 modna parakeets, 302 munias and 75 starlings, the Rab-7 official said at a press briefing.
The smugglers collected these wild birds from Chittagong Hill Tracts and other areas to sell them at a high price, he added.
