10 teenage girls return from Indian prison
Ten Bangladeshi teenage girls returned home on Sunday night after serving three years in an Indian jail for illegal trespassing.
Indian police handed the girls over to Bangladesh Immigration Police through Benapole check post.
The returnees hail from different upazilas of Satkhira and Jessore.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Omar Sharif of Benapole Immigration Police said the girls entered Indian territory through different borders of Jessore in search of jobs three and a half years back without valid documents.
Indian police arrested them from different areas of Mumbai town and filed a case against them for illegal trespassing.
Later, they were produced before an Indian court that sentenced them to three years’ imprisonment and sent them to Mumbai Central Jail.
OC Apurbo Hasan of Benapole Port Police Station said the returnees were later handed over to their respective families.
