Cops among 11 hurt in Dhaka petrol bomb attacks
At least eleven people including two police constables were injured as alleged blockaders hurled petrol bombs at vehicles in Matsya Bhaban and Mohammadpur areas of Dhaka this evening.
Two constables, Shamim and Rahim, and a driver, Morshed, were injured as a police bus carrying around forty lawmen came under the bomb attack in Matsya Bhaban area around 8:30pm, Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ramna Police Station, told The Daily Star.
Meanwhile, in Beribandh area of Mohammadpur, eight persons including -- Nurzahan, 32, Monoara, 35, Arman, 25, and Billal, 25, -- were wounded when unidentified arsonists hurled crud bombs at bus this evening, a victim told our correspondent at DMCH.
The incident takes place amid the nonstop countrywide blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Police alleged that pro-blockade supporters hurled a petrol bomb on the front side of the police bus carrying the law enforcers, who were returning to Razarbagh police line after finishing ttheir day’s duty, near Ramna Resturant.
The bus hit a nearby island as the driver lost control of the vehicle in panic.
Shamim fell unconscious as he was hurt in the head. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Later from there, he was said to be sent to Square Hospital for treatment.
four people were burnt, another four including a child hurt when unidentified miscreants hurled two petrol bombs at another bus carrying around 15-20 people in Mohammadpur at 9:15pm. One of the injured passenger told The Daily Star.
Among the victims there are also three people from a single family.
Several of them asked for financial help as they have no means to bear the expenses to treat their wounds inflicted on them in the attack.
