Cop hurt as ballot snatchers blast bombs in Jessore
A policeman sustained minor injuries when miscreants snatched three ballot boxes exploding 20 crude bombs at a polling centre in Monirampur upazila of Jessore this morning.
Nayek Abdul Jabbar, who sustained injuries during the incident, took primary aid.
A group of 50 to 60 miscreants snatched the ballot boxes at Hazrakathi Primary School polling centre, said Alamgir Hossain, assistant presiding officer of the polling centre.
Police tried to resist the criminals from snatching the ballot boxes by opening black shots, but they managed to flee the scene with the boxes, the election official said.
The voting at the centre was suspended following the incident, reports our Jessore correspondent quoting Sharif Nazrul Islam, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Monirampur.
The activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, snatched the ballot boxes, witnesses said.
A team of Detective Branch of police later raided Hazrakathi village and found two ballot boxes in abandoned condition.
DB personnel also found another charred ballot box.
