Cop dies in Barisal road crash
A policeman was killed and 12 including a deputy secretary of the religious affairs ministry were injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Ujirpur upazila of Barisal this morning.
Mokhlesur Rahman, a Range Reserve Force (RRF) member of Batajore camp in Gournadi upazila of the district, died on the spot, reports our Barisal correspondent quoting AKM Ehsan Ullah, superintendent of police.
Following the rescue operation conducted by police, vehicular movement on Dhaka-Barisal highway remains suspended till 11:45am when the report was filed.
The driver of the Dhaka-bound bus of Eagle Paribahan (Dhaka Metro Ba-14-1010) from Barisal lost control over the steering before the vehicle fell into the ditch near Isaldi toll plaza around 8:20am, the SP added.
Deputy Secretary to Religious Affairs Ministry Md Ranajit was among 12 who were injured in the accident but he was released after giving first aid, Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Ujirpur Police Station told The Daily Star.
The rest injured were whisked off to the upazila health complex and Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH).
Earlier, Mokhlesur was granted a leave by the RRF camp office, the SP said.
