Condition for recognition proves govt's 'illegality': Fakhrul
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the government itself has proved illegal by setting up a precondition of recognition from BNP for dialogue.
“We are eager to hold talks with the government to eradicate the prevailing political stalemate though it is illegal constitutionally,” the BNP spokesperson said.
He was addressing a function organised by National Peoples’ Party at the National Press Club in the capital this afternoon.
“Dialogue is a must in the national interest and that must be held with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at any cost,” he added.
In the previous term the Awami League government amended the constitution at its whims to hold the January five general election under a so called election time government’ he said.
“After doing so, they (Sheikh Hasina) have made a call to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for talks,” he blamed.
Health Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday said that a dialogue between the ruling Awami League (AL) and BNP can take place if it recognises the current government as the legal one.
"If you (BNP) want any dialogue with the government, you first clearly recognise that the government is legal and constitutional. We can think about engaging in dialogue if you say BNP will take part in the next election under the government," he said.
Nasim, also the presidium member of AL, said this while addressing a rally of rural doctors organised by Bangabandhu Gram Doctors Parishad and Gram Doctors Kalyan Samity at Mohanagar Natya Mancha in the city.
