Concert for Freedom at Suhrawardy Udyan
Sector Commanders' Forum chalked out a three day (December 14-16) elaborate programme to mark the 44th Victory Day. The event was set off at Ganojagoron Mancha, Shahbagh on Martyred Intellectual Day (December 14) through screening of documentaries on Liberation War. Live patriotic songs performances and poetry recitations were followed every day. Ganojagoron Mancha arranged a daylong event titled “Amader Sangskriti”, featuring songs of our language, culture and of indigenous communities including Chakma, Marma, Murong and Manipuri on Victory Day (December 16) at historic Suhrawardy Udyan.
Tens of thousands of Bangla-speaking people living around the world serenaded the National Anthem at the same venue at 4:31pm, the time when the Pakistani army surrendered in 1971. Eminent journalist and writer of Ekusher Gaan (Amar Bhai-er Roktey Rangano) Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury administered an oath at the venue. The essence of the oath was to establish a new Bangladesh based on the four pillars of the constitutions of 1972 and free from any exploitation and injustice.
“Bangladesh achieved independence based on the conscience of Liberation War. We, the forthcoming generation of Liberation War, believe and aspire that the country will be governed on the ground of that conscience. We want to see the speedy trials and execution of war criminals, the banning of the politics of Jamaat-e Islami and a beautiful Bangladesh enlightened with the spirit of Liberation War,” said Imran H Sarkar, spokesperson of Ganojagoron Mancha.
Later, 21 Bangladeshi bands, including Maqsood O Dhaka, Artcell, Black, Shohortoli, Minerva and Powersurge, Dreek and solo artistes Joy Shahriar and Maruf performed their popular songs till the end of the night.
