CNG stations in 24-hr service for smooth Eid travel
The government has started allowing CNG stations to remain open for 24 hours to facilitate smooth travel of passengers heading home to celebrate upcoming Eid.
The CNG stations will service the compressed natural gas-run vehicles round the clock for 10 days from July 23 to August 1, Petrobangla said in a statement today.
The government had to order the CNG stations to remain closed for four hours from 5:00pm to 9:00pm everyday as the country has been facing gas shortage for a long time, amid fast depletion of current reserves and limited discovery of new fields.
The gas rationing system has been effective for about three years, said Zakir Hossain Nayon, president of Bangladesh CNG Filling Station and Conversion Workshop Owners Association.
There are 585 CNG stations across the country, consuming 5 percent of the daily production of about 2,300 million cubic feet of gas, according to Petrobangla.
