Classical vocal music recital by Anil Kumar Saha
Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) held an evening of classical vocal music by eminent classical vocalist Anil Kumar Saha from Bangladesh, at its auditorium in Gulshan on March 7.
Saha performs Hindustani classical music in an effortless style. Presentation of conspicuous Akar-Sargam Taan, diversity of rhythm amid taan and soulful yet very sweet pukar are the hallmarks of his singing.
Saha set off the soiree with Raga Jog set on vilambit ektaal and tintaal. Later, he presented Ragas Bageshree, Kaunshik Dhwani (tintaal), Basant (ektaal), Desh (tintaal) and a Bhairavi bhajan on kaharwa taal. Syed Sajid Hossain on tabla, Aloke Kumar Sen on harmonium and Mithu Khan on tanpura accompanied Saha at the soiree.
Saha received his initial training in classical music from Mahbubur Rahman of Sirajganj. Later, he trained in India under Ustad A Daud Khan, of Kirana Gharana. Saha has completed his Sangeet Vibhakar (B.Mus) and Sangeet Ratna (M.Mus) degrees from Bangiya Sangeet Parishad, Kolkata -- a renowned cultural body.
He is presently a lecturer of classical music at Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology. He has also taught classical music at Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA) and several other institutions. He has published two books on music titled “Sangeet Prabeshak” and “Sur Nirjhar”.
He has performed in numerous stage shows in Bangladesh and abroad and has also won many awards, including the “Citycell Channel i Music Award” for best classical vocalist in 2004 and 2007.
