Wrong side driving: 32 drivers sued, fined
Police today filed cases against 32 drivers and fined them for using the wrong side of Bijoy Sarani intersection in Dhaka.
The vehicles include two cars of assistant commissioner (AC) of police, a BRTC bus of Textile University, a microbus, three CNG run auto-rickshaw and 25 motorbikes.
The law enforcers conducted the drive between 4:30pm and 7:00pm as a part their continuous move.
Mosleh Uddin, additional commissioner of DMP Traffic, who was present in the operation, said they would not allow anyone to use the wrong side.
The drive was underway at different traffic points since last year and an average 300 to 350 cases were filed daily for wrong side driving now, which was 400 to 450 just a month back, he said.
Earlier, DMP conducted a three-day long special operation against wrong side driving started on September 24. A number of vehicles including a state minister, a lawmaker, several top bureaucrats, army officers and journalists were fined during these drives.
The drive conducted again on October 4 in hare road, where 41 more drivers were fined including a car of Public Service Commission member. According to traffic police records, police fined 1,16,026 vehicles in the last fiscal year for travelling against traffic.
