Withdrawn Barisal Ansars demand pay
Demanding arrear salaries, 100 Ansar members, who have been temporarily withdrawn, demonstrated by blocking the main entrance to the Barisal office of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP in the city's Kashipur yesterday.
They said they did not get any salaries since they joined the force on February 23, 2015.
Of the demonstrators, Rezaul Huq said according to their recruitment on a temporary basis each of them was supposed to be paid a minimum Tk 9,600 monthly.
Acknowledging the fact, Md Kamal Hossain, district commandant in Barisal, said they received a letter from the Ansar headquarters in Dhaka yesterday, which ordered them to withdraw the members.
Kamal said those Ansars were deployed in four police stations under Barisal Metropolitan Police to help police maintain law and order.
Of them, 94 were appointed as Ansar members and 6 as commanders, he added.
About their payment, he said they would certainly be paid. He, however, could not say when.
A high official in the Ansar and VDP headquarters in Dhaka told The Daily Star that they discussed the issue on Tuesday.
The Ansars were recruited upon request from the police department and presently there was no demand for them, he said.
He, however, could not say which department would pay them.
