of Voting, Violence
Supporters of ruling party-backed councillor candidates clash with the supporters of the BNP-backed candidates and also those of AL rebels at some polling centres in the capital yesterday. The Daily Star even saw a councillor aspirant attack the campaign official of a rival candidate. Shots had been fired on several occasions and a female runner was hit with bullets. The turnout was very low in some polling stations. A polling centre was closed to voters. Some voters were dejected after finding their votes had already been cast, while some were jubilant after voting for the first time. Diplomats visited a few polling stations. The photos were taken at the polling centres in North Kafrul High School, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Badrunnesa Mohila College, Suritola Model Govt Primary School, Manipur School and College, Segunbagicha High School, and in Nayapaltan, among other places.
