Vandalism at Ctg court: 9 lawyers asked to explain conduct
Bangladesh Bar Council, the licencing and regulatory body for lawyers, today issued a notice upon nine lawyers of Chittagong court to explain by February 14 about their conducts over vandalism at a Chittagong court on January 18.
The lawyers are: Advocate Jannatul Ferdous Mukta, Advocate Chandan Biswas, Advocate Shakil, Advicate Awal khan, Advocate PR Khan, Advocate Prodip Das, Advocate Shibli, Advocate Masud Parvez and Advocate Mustafiz.
Bangladesh Bar Council deputy secretary issued the show-cause notice on behalf of the council following a petition of complaint referred by High Court Registrar Abu Syed Diljar Hussain.
Earlier on January 23, the Supreme Court administration asked Bangladesh Bar Council to take appropriate legal action against the lawyers who were involved with the incident.
They also said the Bar Council can cancel the certificate of a lawyer, if allegation of misconduct against him or her is found true.
On January 18, agitating lawyers reportedly vandalised a Chittagong court after it rejected a bail petition of their fellow lawyer and his wife in a human trafficking case.
The couple -- Jamal Hossain and his wife Yasmin Akhter -- was arrested at Shah Amanat International Airport in connection with helping two people, including a Rohingya woman, to go to Saudi Arabia with fake Umrah visas.
As the court rejected their bail prayer, the agitating lawyers vandalised the nameplate of the judge, windows of his chamber, ransacked the files at the courtroom and also scuffled with police.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice SK Sinha on January 19 formed a three-member committee led by Supreme Court Registrar General Syed Aminul Islam to probe the incident of vandalism at the Chittagong court.
