Tutor's beating sends student to hospital
Mercilessly assaulted by a tutor, a student of Bandarban Govt Sishu Poribar, a government-run hostel in Kalaghata of Bandarban for impoverished students of different primary and high schools in the district, is groaning with pain at a Sadar hospital.
The tutor, Md Jashim alias Jashim Hujur, hit Padmo Tanchangya, a 10th-grader living at the hostel, in the hands and legs on Thursday for his alleged carelessness to a child of Jashim who also lives there. He also beat and chased other students approaching to see the incident, alleged witnesses.
It was alleged that Jashim always wanted the hostel students to take care of his child.
Chali Mong Marma, a Sangu High School student residing in the hostel, alleged, "Jashim sir beat me mercilessly with a piece of wood and broke one of my fingers a few months ago."
Two other students -- Pitar Tripura and Kya Noi Marma -- echoed Chali Mong, adding that they fled the hostel being unable to bear the tutor's torture. Asked, Jashim conceded, "I made a mistake. Please forgive me. I will never do this again."
Another student, Krom Poing Mro alleged, "The hostel authorities do not properly provide us with food."Padmo's mother Suroth Tanchangya demanded punishment for the tutor.
Shafiqul Islam, head of the institution, said, "I've visited the victim at the hospital", adding, "It was very cruel and unfortunate."
