Teenager found dead in Mirpur
A 15-year-old tea vendor was found dead in the capital's Mirpur area yesterday.
Sayem Dewan, son of Babu Dewan, might have hanged himself in their West Kazipara house on Monday night, Mirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Mizanur Rahman told The Daily Star.
An image of a whale was carved, apparently by a sharp metal object, on the inside of his left forearm, he said, adding that they were looking into whether the death was influenced by the much-talked about online game named “Blue Whale Challenge”.
Sayem dropped out of fifth-grade and was working with his father at a tea stall for the last one and a half years, police and family sources said.
A forensic analysis was being conducted on his smartphone, OC Mizanur added.
Najmul Islam, additional deputy commissioner of social media monitoring team of cyber crime department of DMP, said they were not clear whether the boy had committed suicide as the game requires basic command over English.
The link of the game is not easily accessible either, he added.
