Taskforce to protect Dhaka water bodies this month: DC
To protect environmental pollution and encroachment of water bodies in Dhaka district, a taskforce will be formed within this month, said Deputy Commissioner M Tofazzel Hossain Miah.
He was addressing a views exchange meeting “Environmental pollution -- ways to resolve: Savar perspective” organised by Savar Upazila Parishad with the assistance of Nodi o Paribesh Unnayan Parishad in the upazila parishad auditorium.
The committee will include the officials from local government organisations, Roads and Highways Department, the Department of Environment, ministries concerned, environmentalists, lawmakers, law enforcers, and political leaders, he told The Daily Star over the phone.
The DC, however, said they were yet to select the members of the committee.
Local lawmaker Dr Enamur Rahman was the chief guest while Superintendent of Police in the district Md Habibur Rahman was special guest.
Savar upazila nirbahi officer, the municipality mayor, DoE deputy director, RHD sub-divisional engineer, general secretary of the Corruption Prevention Committee, and all the Union Parishad chairmen in Savar were also present.
The taskforce will start functioning from June 1, the DC said, adding that it would conduct drives at least four days a week against such malpractice. The DC also called for another meeting after three months to explain the actions taken by the taskforce.
