Halt poultry, fish feed factories' operation at Hazaribagh: HC
The Supreme Court today upheld a High Court verdict directing the government to stop functioning of the poultry and fish feed factories that are using tannery waste in Dhaka's Hazaribagh area in two months.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order dismissing an appeal petition that challenged the HC verdict.
The HC on July 21, 2011 directed the authorities to stop operation of the poultry and fish feed factories at Hazaribagh in the capital.
It also the authorities to take legal action against the factories which are using tannery waste in producing poultry and fish feed.
Golam Saruar, proprietor of Shoeb Enterprise, a poultry feed producing industry, filed the leave to appeal petition with the apex court challenging the HC verdict.
Today, the apex court dismissed the appeal after hearing it.
Manzil Morshed, petitioner’s counsel, told The Daily Star the industries using tannery waste for producing poultry and fish food will have to be closed following the apex court order.
