Star reporter among 8 given Tobacco Control Journalism Award
Eight journalists were yesterday presented with “Tobacco Control Journalism Award 2016” for their anti-tobacco reporting.
Progotir Jonno Gyan (Progga) and Anti-tobacco Media Alliance (ATMA) jointly gave the award in four categories titled -- local newspaper, print/online newspaper (Bangla), print/online newspaper (English), and electronic media.
Daily Star correspondent S Dilip Roy and Financial Express special correspondent Dowlat Akhter Mala received the award for the best reports in print/online newspaper (English) category.
Khorshed Alam Sagar (banglanews24.com), Sunil Singha (the Daily Sylhet-er Dak), Hamid-uz-Zaman Mamum (the Daily Janakantha), Ziaul Hoq Mizan (the Daily Naya Diganta), Rita Nahar (Boishakhi TV) and Jharna Roy (Desh TV) got the award in the other three categories.
Health Minister Mohammad Nasim handed over a crest, a certificate and a cheque for Tk 50,000 to each of the awardees at a function in the capital's Cirdap auditorium.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, National Heart Foundation founder and president Brig (retd) Abdul Malik and Progga Executive Director ABM Jubayer were present at the programme, chaired by daily Samakal Deputy Editor Mozammel Hossain.
