Schoolgirl’s death sparks demo in Dhaka
Several hundred students of Willes Little Flower School staged demonstration in front of their school protesting the death of their fellow, who was stabbed allegedly by a stalker in Dhaka’s Kakrail area four days ago.
Vehicular movement remained suspended for several hours following the demonstration at Kakrail.
Suraya Akhter, an eighth-grader of Willes Little Flower School, succumbed to her wounds at Intensive Care Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 8:30am today, Bachchu Mia, a sub-inspector of the hospital’s police outpost, told The Daily Star.
They were continuing their demonstration until 1:30pm when the report was filed.
On August 24, Suraya Akhter was allegedly stabbed on her way home from school in the capital's Kakrail.
According to police, the attacker, Obaidul Khan, who used to stalk the girl, is yet to be arrested.
Her family filed a case with the police station the same day mentioning Obaidul as the lone suspect.
The case was filed under the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act.
