SCBA president gets anticipatory bail
The High Court yesterday granted anticipatory bail to Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Advocate Zainul Abedin in three criminal cases.
It also ordered the government not to harass or arrest SCBA Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon for next one month in connection with the same cases.
Two HC benches issued the orders after hearing three separate bail petitions filed by Zainul Abedin and a writ filed by Mahbub Uddin’s wife Akhtarunnesa Atia.
The bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath granted anticipatory bail Zainul, his lawyer Barrister AKM Ehsanur Rahman told The Daily Star.
Meanwhile, the bench of Justice Naima Haider and Zafar Ahmed ordered the government not to harass or arrest Mahbub Uddin Khokon, following a writ petition filed by his wife, Ehsanur added.
The cases were filed with Ramna and Shahbagh Police Stations on charges of attacking police and preventing them from discharging their duties during an agitation enforced by BNP on January 30.
