SC fixes July 14 for hearing bail plea of Shafik Rehman
The Supreme Court yesterday fixed July 14 for hearing an appeal filed by veteran journalist Shafik Rehman seeking bail in a sedition case.
Chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice Hasan Foez Siddique fixed the date after a hearing on the leave to appeal petition filed against a High Court order that rejected a bail petition of Shafik Rehman.
The case was filed against Shafik Rehman for his alleged attempts to abduct and murder Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
The former editor of the daily Jaijaidin was arrested on April 16 in the case at his residence by detectives.
The HC on June 7 rejected his bail petition on the ground that the investigation into the case against him was going on.
