Ruet teachers suspend strike
After 13 days of continuous strike, Teachers' association of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) yesterday suspended their strike temporary giving the university authorities a 21-day ultimatum.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the association yesterday.
“We have given a 21-day ultimatum to the authorities to take proper steps against the students who misbehaved with us and confined us for around 20 hours during their demonstration for cancellation of the “33 Credit system,” said President of the association Prof Nirendranath Mustafi.
Mentionable, the university on February 5 cancelled the credit system in the face of continuous movements of a section of students.
On the same day, the teachers' association declared an indefinite strike demanding punishment of the students who allegedly insulted teachers including the Ruet vice-chancellor during the 20-hour confinement the day before.
The university authority on February 8 also formed a five-member committee to investigate the matter.
