RU teachers withdraw movement
Teachers of the political science department of Rajshahi University (RU) withdrew their protest programme yesterday evening after the vice-chancellor formed a committee to probe both the group's complaints.
VC Prof Abdus Sobhan formed a three-member probe committee, said registrar office sources.
Yesterday morning, the 11 agitating teachers staged a sit-in and declared an indefinite work abstention programme to press home their demand for removal of Chairperson Prof Nasima Zaman.
Prof Ruhul Amin, one of the teachers, said, “Prof Nasima and another teacher Rukhshana Parvin had been spreading some false and made-up rumours against them since long. But the authorities did not take any steps, so we decided to wage the movement.”
The chairperson said, “To cover up allegations of sexual harassment and irregularities in evening course programme against them, the teachers conspired the movement against me.”
On July27, the 11 teachers submitted a written complaint to the chairperson against Rukhshana, assistant professor, about her misbehaviour with her colleagues and students.
Meantime, Rukhshana in the presence of Nasima submitted a written complaint to the VC accusing some of the teachers of misbehaving with her on different dates. She specially mentioned that Prof Ruhul Amin harassed her sexually. Prof Ruhul denied the allegation.
