‘Renewable Energy Expo’ to be held Mar 15-18 at DU
A four-day ‘National Renewable Energy & Green Expo-2017’ will be held from March 15 to 18 at the central field on Dhaka University campus.
The event, titled ‘Long Term Planning for Renewable Energy in Bangladesh 2017-2050’, will be organised by the Institute of Energy of the university, according to a press release.
Prime minister's Energy Adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury will be present as the chief guest at the event.
The contribution of Bangladesh’s private sector in power generation is growing rapidly. About 50 percent of electricity is now being generated by private sector in the country. On the other hand, local entrepreneurs have invested around TK 70,000 crore in power generation in last decade, the release read.
The Institute of Energy at DU is the pioneer in the arena of doing research in renewable energy sector and is organising seminar-symposium and brain-storming sessions to discuss renewable energy and the energy destination of next decade.
The expo will also focus on green products, such as jute and other indigenous areas to explore new opportunities and research, and exhibit renewable energy products on the premises of the institute, according to the press release.
Conducting the energy expo is a part of this programme through which it will create awareness about renewable energy among the masses, especially the young people.
Quiz, essay writing, art competition for children on renewable energy subjects, and award giving ceremony will also be part of the event.
