BU recruitment process triggers protest
Bangladesh Chhatra League activists of Barisal University allegedly foiled a human chain of teachers, students and staff of the university yesterday.
The human chain was formed in front of the university's administration building protesting the alleged defamatory comments made about the vice chancellor by the Muktijoddha Santan Command (a platform of the children of freedom fighters) of Barisal District.
Various sections of people including freedom fighters, cultural activists, and students' front have been protesting against the vice chancellor for the last seven days over the recent recruitment process of the university.
They alleged that the VC is involved in corruption and nepotism and did not include any Muktijoddha quota in the process.
Contacted, the VC denied the allegations.
Protesting the comments, the human chain was formed yesterday noon.
Abdul Kayum, general secretary of Teachers' Association, alleged that the BCL activists snatched their banners, damaged some of the benches in front of the building and verbally abused them. “They also forced us to leave the area,” he alleged.
However, a section of students claimed that some of the teachers forced them to participate in the human chain, which Abdul Kayum denied.
None of the BCL activists were available for comments.
