Reckless driving puts entire Bogra family in peril
Shabina Yesmin lived in Bogra with her husband, a son and daughter.
They were from a small village, where they had a smaller house, but it was filled with love and hope.
Even amid struggles, Shabina, 32, did not stop dreaming big for her ten-year-old son and five-year-old daughter's future.
Since she was not feeling well, on Monday, her husband Abdul Wahab, a farmer of Phulbari village and the family rented a battery-run rickshaw-van, and went to see a doctor at Sherpur municipality. It was a 15-20 minutes journey, but the weather was quite pleasant and the four reached there in no time.
The doctor at the Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital prescribed her medicines and said it was nothing serious.
Relieved, the family headed back the same way.
After reaching the bus stand area, a speeding Dhaka-bound truck hit their rickshaw-van from behind. They were ejected from the vehicle onto the street. Shabina fell on the traffic lane and the truck ran her over.
She died on the spot.
Police, with the help of the locals arrested the driver of the truck Abdul Gafur of Shajahanpur upazila in Bogra.
Her husband, children, and the rickshaw-van driver were rushed to Sherpur health complex for treatment, they said.
“I haven't told my children that their mother's gone,” said Wahab, too shocked to absorb the truth himself.
Contacted, Abul Kalam Azad, sub-inspector of Sherpur town police out-post, said a case was lodged against the driver and he was sent to jail after producing him before the court yesterday.
The conditions of the injured were improving, he added.
