RCC increases staff's salaries
The Rajshahi City Corporation authorities finally increased the salaries of its employees following a movement for one and a half months.
It also reinstated 154 employees, who were sacked in May on various grounds.
Earlier on Saturday, RCC Mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, at a press conference at Rajshahi Nagar Bhaban, made the announcement and said arrears of the increased salaries would be adjusted in next six to one year.
“I agree with the employees' demands. Those are legal. If the government decisions were implemented in time, situation would not have turned worse,” he said, adding that the government increased the salaries when he remained suspended.
Azmir Ahmed Mamun, general secretary of the corporation's employees' union, said they withdrew all movement.
The employees began a movement in early May to press home 11-point demand.
