Rangpur weekly editor stabbed by criminals
Unidentified criminals stabbed the editor of a weekly newspaper in Rangpur early yesterday.
The injured Haji Maruf; editor of Choloman Barta, a Rangpur based newspaper; is undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Family members said Maruf was returning home, in Mulatol area of the city, riding his motorcycle. When he reached near the Rice Research Institute in the town, around six miscreants attacked him with sharp weapons and wooden sticks.
Hearing his screams, locals rushed there and took him to the hospital after rescuing.
Victim's brother Touhidur Rahman, also a ward member of the Rangpur City Corporation, alleged that criminals actually tried to kill his brother.
Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur Sadar Police Station ABM Zahidul Islam said drug peddlers or motorcycle snatchers might be behind the incident.
