Qadri laid to rest
Eminent poet Shahid Qadri was laid to rest at Shaheed Buddhijibi Graveyard in Mirpur of Dhaka this afternoon.
Qadri was buried around 3:30pm after the namaz-e-janaza following the Zuhr prayers at Dhaka University central mosque, seeking the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Earlier, his body was kept at the Central Shaheed Minar where people from all walks of life paid their last respect to the poet.
His body was flown from New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport around 11:00pm on Monday, said Shameem Ahsan, consul general and the consulate general of Bangladesh there.
It landed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 8:45am today, said poet Abdus Samad, an organiser who is arranging the public programmes here.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina personally moved to bring back his body,” said Mahbubul Haque Shakil, premier’s deputy press secretary, who placed a wreath on behalf of the PM, told the media.
Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Bangla Academy, Sector Commanders’ Forum and Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee were among prominent organisations who paid their respect.
The eminent Bengali poet passed away on August 28 at a hospital in New York, United States, at the age of 74. He was suffering from old age complications for the last six months.
