Prothom Alo engages with readers
Sanjida Chowdhury, a university student, has been eagerly waiting for the day when her favourite Bangla newspaper will celebrate its anniversary with the readers.
So she and her family went to the capital's Bangla Academy yesterday morning, as the Bangla daily Prothom Alo organised a programme marking its 18th anniversary titled “Pathak Utshab-Esho Atharoy”, where more than a thousand readers like Sanjida gathered.
Readers, journalists, writers and cultural personalities took part in the celebration with much enthusiasm. The Bangla daily turned 18 on November 4.
“Prothom Alo always organises events for readers,” said an elated Sanjida, adding, “We also get to meet our favourite personalities and share thoughts with the newspaper.”
Her younger brother Shahriare echoed her.
The gathering became a meeting place for journalists and readers where they exchanged their views. The newspaper also organised cultural programmes, photo exhibition and other interactive sessions for the readers. Each of the newspaper's supplements also set up separate stalls.
Shaheen Rahman, a housewife, said the lifestyle supplementary “Naksha” was her favourite.
There was also a question-answer session where Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, associate editors Anisul Hoque and Abdul Quayum and other journalists took part.
The editor said people from different parts of the world read Prothom Alo through internet.
He said that they have been already publishing a printed version of the newspaper in Qatar, and will soon publish it in other Arab countries and the US.
Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Kamrul Islam Chowdhury, filmmaker Mostafa Sarwar Faruqui and actress Nusrat Imroz Tisha also participated at the programme.
