Protesting loud music: 2 remanded over death of elderly man
A Dhaka court today placed two accused on a one-day remand each in connection with the death of an elderly man following a scuffle over playing loud music in Wari area of Dhaka yesterday.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Fahd Bin Amin Chowdhury passed the order after Wari police produced two of the four arrestees -- Sazzad and Mirza Zahid -- before the court with a 10-day remand for each.
Nazmul Haque, 65, was a former superintendent of the land ministry. He reportedly died after being assaulted by his neighbours yesterday for protesting against loud music on the rooftop of their apartment.
Later, police arrested Altaf Hossain, his son Sazzad, daughter Raiyan Hasnin and a relative Jahid in connection with the death.
Sazzad and Zahid have primarily admitted to their involvement in the scuffle that led to Nazmul’s death, said Md Sohel Rana, assistant commissioner of police (Wari division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Meanwhile, an autopsy on Nazmul’s body was conducted at Sir Salimullah Medical College.
