Proper planning a key to disaster management
Speakers at a programme in the capital yesterday said proper planning is a key to disaster management.
They made the remarks at a conference titled “Disasters and Emergencies Preparedness Programmes” at the Brac Centre Inn. Save the Children organised the programme supported by Action Against Hunger.
Reaz Ahmed, additional secretary and director general of the department of disaster management under disaster and relief ministry, said, “Bangladesh is known for cyclone and flood. However, we do not have much experience on earthquake. Experts are warning us that we might have a major earthquake around 7.1 Richter Scale; so we have to prepare accordingly."
Mark Pierce, country director of Save the Children, spoke among others.
Several cases were also presented in the conference.
Stakeholders from different development sectors shared their learning too.
