Prof Shariff-led panel sweeps registered graduate election
A pro-Awami League panel led by former vice chancellor Prof Shariff Enamul Kabir has swept the registered graduate representatives' election for the Jahangirnagar University senate.
"Bangabandhur Adarsha o Muktijuddher Chetonay Bishwasi Pragatishil Jote" won 18 out of the 25 posts, while the other pro-AL panel "Bangabandhur Adarsha o Muktijuddher Chetonay Pragatishil Graduate Mancho", led by former VC Prof MA Matin, got one post.
The winning representatives are KH Mahid Uddin, Kaikobad Hossain, Prof Shariff, Dr Md Alamgir Kabir, Sohel Parvez, Ashish Kumar Majumder, Shamima Sultana, Krishna Gayen, Prithila Nazneen Nilima, Mahabbat Hossain Khan, Sheikh Monowar Hossain, Motaher Hossain, Abul Kalam Azad, Mehedi Zamil, Ebaidullah Talukder, Induprova Das, Masudur Rahman, and Anowar Hossain Mirdha.
Md Abdul Mannan Chowdhury was the lone candidate to be elected from the MA Matin-led panel.
Meanwhile, pro-BNP "Swadhinata, Sarbabhoumotwa, Bahudaliya Ganatantra o Bangladeshi Jatiyatabadey Bishwasi" panel has bagged six posts. They are Shihab Uddin Khan, Dr Md Nazrul Islam, Dr Md Kamrul Ahsan, Shamima Sultana, Shamsul Alam, and Sabina Yesmin.
JU treasurer Prof Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq, also the returning officer of the election, announced the result at 5:00am yesterday.
None of the 44 independent candidates won in the election.
The last election to choose registered graduate representatives took place 16 years ago in 1998.
