Probe report on graft allegations due today
Following requests from the probe committee, protesting teachers, high officials and other staff of Rangpur Carmichael College yesterday returned to work.
Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury, general secretary of Carmichael College Teachers Welfare Association, said the demonstrators decided to postpone their strike until the probe body formed by the education ministry files the report today.
“The committee is scheduled to submit its probe report today”, said Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury.
A three-member probe committee headed by Dr Abdul Maleque, director (training) of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, was formed by the Ministry of Education on February 15.
Earlier on February 10, around 378 teachers and staff of the century-old college started an indefinite strike demanding removal of its Principal Dr Abdul Latif Miah for his alleged corruption, misuse of power, nepotism and misbehaviour.
The teacher said the principal is often rude to the teachers, officials and staff.
However, the principal denied the allegation against him, while talking to the Daily Star.
Meanwhile, Abdur Razzak, vice principal of the college said they would decide the next course of actions at a meeting scheduled for February 27.
